Don't Be Afraid To....

Hi Everyone,

Taylored Expressions has created an exciting new item - the Stamp of the Month Club - where every month you can receive a special stamp set and can also get the Key Ingredients kit that will coordinate with it (or you can just get the KI kit or just the Stamp of the Month - sooo many options!!) Seems like it is a way to create cards that are "taylor" made to perfection!  Check out the Taylored Expressions Deluxe Subscription kit (where you can get the KI kit and the Stamp of the Month) for June here:

I just love loved loved loved playing with this stamp set - those galoshes are so darling! But for today's card I wanted to use the super sweet umbrella with these awesome sentiments: Laugh Lots, Get Wet, Be Happy! I loved all the sentiments - but didn't know how to choose - so I decided to use them all! I absolutely love how this card turned out - seriously - love the feeling of this card and the designer paper and coordinating ribbons in this Key Ingredients kit:

I decided to tie the sentiments to the umbrella with some Baker's Twine and then colored in the panels of the umbrella with copics. I created a little cloud scene with the Cloud Border Die and then cut a border with it and then attached the sentiment: Don't be Afraid to..."

Card Ingredients:
Stamps: You Make Me Happy Stamp Set: June 2013 Stamp of the Month from Taylored Expressions
Paper: Vintage Bliss DP from Simple Stories, cardstock and ribbon from the June Key Ingredients from Taylored Expressions
Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black and Teal Zeal, Bamboo Leaves, Canteloupe and Rose Red
Accessories: Rainy Days dies, Labels Stacklets 1, Circle punches, corner chomper, Cloud Border Die, dimensionals, and copics

I used the Label Stacklets 1 dies to be the background shape for the images. I just love the sentiment - Don't be Afraid to.... its a good reminder to just jump into life!

This a reminder especially for me this summer to just go for it and enjoy all the time with the kids and that if they are jumping in a puddle, I want to jump into the puddle with them and splash about too - life is too short to worry about dirty shoes and laundry! I do have fears - big fears and small fears - and one that I want to let go of this summer is swimming. There is something about being near the deep end of the pool that quite scares me and so I started taking swim lessons with my kids. It is so much fun to have lessons with my kiddos - they give me confidence and I give them confidence :) What are your fears that you are trying to let go of?

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Have a wonderful weekend!
Big hugs,
Sankari

Taylored Expressions June Studio Challenge

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the monthly Baker’s Dozen Studio Challenge from Taylored Expressions! This is a monthly opportunity for the Taylored Expressions team to share what makes our stamping studios hum. Each month we have a fun crafty question so we can share our favorites, some tips and tricks, stamping advice and more!

The question for June is:

What's on your summer reading list?  Are you a big reader or not?  If you are, what books have you read lately that you would recommend?  Do you have a favorite author or genre? How about something for sitting out by the pool, or the beach, or even just the backyard...some nice light summer reading?
Do you use fancy bookmarks or do you dog-ear your pages?  Or, do you use an e-reader? Everyone can use bookmarks and they make great favors and gifts.  Let's see a little inspiration!

Growing up, I have always loved to read - especially during the summer! I remember going to the library and seeing the summer reading challenge and getting so excited! I would get 20 books at a time and set them in a corner of my room on a green chair and start reading in the morning and go into the night - only stopping to eat (as I was reading) and to play soccer in the evening with my friends on the block :)

There is something just magical to me about getting lost in the story of a book and its still amazes me how you can be reading a book and suddenly start laughing out loud, or crying, or hold the book so tightly in sheer terror - just by reading some words put together so magically by the author! Books truly transport you to another realm and I always feel disoriented after I am done with one. I was excited by this studio challenge because I love books and wanted to make some bookmarks for my family :) We are on a reading challenge!

Our family's reading challenge:

So a few months ago my 8 year old kept pestering me and pestering me for his own iPod. Ummm.... hello, I would say to him - You are only 8. You still forget parts of your uniform at school, you are still learning to read and write, you can barely remember where you threw your soccer jersey after you came home from the game - umm... no you are not getting an iPod because your 8.

And because you should be reading books and playing outside and getting muddy and catching frogs and lying on the grass watching the clouds roll by and pestering me to take you to the pool and riding your bike with the wind in your hair and making forts and because you are 8. And 8 year olds need iPods of their own like …hmmmm…. To quote U2... like a fish needs a bicycle.

One thing that an 8 year old has is persistence - and he kept pestering and hounding me over and over .... and I would roll my eyes over and over - until i thought that my eyeballs would be permanently stuck to the top of my skull - and I caved.... kind of ;) !

My challenge to him was this... Ok, I will buy you your own iPod if you will do the following - keep your room tidy (at the end of the day nothing on the floor, bed has been made) and after you read 200 books on your own. Mom approved books. Not books that you can finish in 2 minutes and have 15 pages in them. And he agreed jumping up and down in sheer happiness! I don't think he understands what a mom approved book will look like ;) - and with his reading level and 200 mom approved books - I am thinking it will be a couple of years before he will actually hold an iPod of his own in his hands :)

So wanting to be fair, I told him that I would join him and read 200 books myself - and he can approve them - he was so excited to approve something that I do - and we challenged his father, my DH, to read 1 book this summer. That's right you heard right - just read one book. Not 200 books like us... just read 1 book! He is not a book reader - more like an online surfer... and he has accepted the challenge and has a book sitting by the night stand in the bedroom that I am hoping he will finish in this lifetime :)

So today's challenge was so perfect! I made a set of 4 bookmarks - one for each person in our family as we join this challenge (our 6 year old is also joining in by trying to read 20 board books this summer). Here is my set of 4 bookmarks made using the Mark Your Spot Bookmark Die from Taylored Expressions with the stamp set Mark Your Spot:
Card Ingredients:
StampsMark Your Spot from Taylored Expressions
Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black and Ladybug Red
Paper: Choice Snow White card stock from Taylored Expressions and DP scraps for the hill
AccessoriesMark Your Spot Bookmark Die and Cloud Border die Taylored Expressions, eyelet, ribbon, copics, sponger and dimensionals

Here is a closer peek at one of the bookmarks that has my favorite quote from Dr. Seuss: "The more you read, the more things you will know, the more you learn, the places you will go." Oh, Dr. Seuss - you are so right and awesome!!

I made a set of these bookmarks only changing a few things - the color of the car and the paper pieced hills:
And did the same in the second set of bookmarks - changed the paper pieced hills and the color of the arrows:

For all of the bookmarks:
1. I die cut the bookmarks with the Mark Your Spot Bookmark Die from Taylored Expressions
2. Sponged clouds using the Cloud Border die from Taylored Expressions
3. Stamped the sentiment ontop of the clouds
4. Colored in the hills with copics as well as paper piecing them
5. Popped up the car with dimensionals not the bottom left corner

Tips and Tricks
The only tip that I have in making the bookmarks is to do one thing 4 times - so cut out all the bookmarks at the same time, stamp and color and 4 hills at the same time, stamp, cut and color the car all at the same time - makes everything so much faster. Not much of a tip I know, but definitely makes it speedy in making a set of bookmarks :)

And here are some of the 400 summer reading books :)
For my 8 year old - he really wanted to start with the Hobbit - I told him it might be hard - but I would sit with him and listen to him read it aloud and help him out - so we are starting his challenge with the Hobbit!! And then he wants to read A Wind in the Door by Madeline L'Engle and he also wants to read the Harry Potter series - which I think is okay unto book 4 and then I think he should wait for a little bit till he is older to read the rest because he is still a bit young. And also on tap for him are the Magic Treehouse books - which he just loves and I do as well!

As for me, I am re-reading some of my favorite books: Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez - one of my all time magical realism writers and a book of writings and poetry from Emerson - who is simply sublime and inspiring. Along with this I am reading the Palace of Illusions (which is the story of the Mahabharata as told through the perspective of Draupadi) and a book called Being Different (An Indian challenge to Western Universalism)- which I have been meaning to read for the last three years.

What is on your summer reading list? Any recommendations for my 8 year old and for me?

I can't wait to see what the rest of the design team has created with today's studio challenge and am excited to see what's on their summer reading list! Please hop around with me and check them out:

You're An A+ in My Books

Hi Everyone,

Can you believe the school year has come to an end? I for one - can NOT believe how fast this year has flown by, I mean FLOWN by!!! The year started out with a bang - so many activities and greet and meet togethers - pumping carvings, halloween costume parties, holiday parties, valentine's day parties, welcome spring picnics and all the summer celebrations - this year has just flown by!

My wee ones have had a great year thanks to their teachers and I had a chance to make them a thank you card that I had all the kids sign and give to their teacher. Here is one card that I made using the Make the Grade stamp set from Taylored Expressions:

 Card Ingredients:
Stamp: Make the Grade and Extra Credit stamp sets from Taylored Expressions
Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, Bahama Blue and Ladybug Red
Papers: Choice Snow White card stock and scrap pieces of paper from Bazzill
Accessories: Marshmellow Felt, Fence punch and Grass punch from MS, Rainy Days die (clouds), Cloud Border die, sponger, copics and dimensionals

Here is the inside of the card - I love the sentiment from the Extra Credit stamp set and stamped the apple with the sentiment: "You're an Awesome Teacher" on the inside with LadyBug Red ink and colored in the apple with copics:

I was so excited to give this card with all the signatures of the students to their teacher at the end of school - it was so cute to see all their different signatures and she really loved getting it :)

I am so grateful to all the amazing teachers out there that just work so so so hard to nourish the hearts and enrich the minds of all the little ones in their classes! Teachers are amazing! Hope all you teachers out there are enjoying your summer vacations!!! Thank you for all you do!

Big hugs,
Sankari :)

June Stamp of the Month from Taylored Expressions

Hi Everyone,
Taylored Expressions has created an exciting new item - the Stamp of the Month Club - where every month you can receive a special stamp set and can also get the Key Ingredients kit that will coordinate with it (or you can just get the KI kit or just the Stamp of the Month - sooo many options!!) Seems like it is a way to create cards that are "taylor" made to perfection!  Check out the Taylored Expressions Deluxe Subscription kit (where you can get the KI kit and the Stamp of the Month) for June here:

I love the super cute images of the little galoshes and the umbrella and the dies that coordinate are awesome!!! They cut out the individual panels of the umbrella which makes paper piecing so easy and so much fun! For my card today, I had to use the sentiment: "You make me happy when skies are gray" - because this was the lyrics of one of my most favorite songs ever growing up ("you are my sunshine, my only sunshine...etc) I created the clouds using the Ride the Wave Border die and angled it around the circular panel and then created a sun using the Pinking Circles Stacklets dies

I drew out a little puddle and cut/colored it out and then set the galosh that I paper pieced on it with a little bit of the side of the boot shaded with gray copics. And for a bit of fun, I added some blue blinged raindrops and some bling on the "clouds":

Card Ingredients:
Stamps: You Make Me Happy Stamp Set: June 2013 Stamp of the Month from Taylored Expressions
Paper: Vintage Bliss DP from Simple Stories, cardstock and ribbon from the June Key Ingredients from Taylored Expressions
Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black and Teal Zeal
Accessories: Rainy Days, Pinking Shears dies, Ride the Wave Border, circle nestabilities, corner chomper, bling, dimensionals, and copics

It was so much fun to create this card with this adorable stamp set and this fun KI kit! I can't wait to see what all the amazing designers have created with this beautiful deluxe kit - please hop along with me and check them out!!

Taylored Expressions June Spotlights: Ride the Wave

Hi Everyone,

Happy Friday everyone!! I am so excited because school is out for the summer!! Just to not do all the back and forth driving is something that I am looking forward to enjoying the slower pace of life :) Yesterday was the June Release of all the new dies and stamps from Taylored Expressions and today we are doing a fun spotlight hop!!

For my project, I created a card using the totally cool Ride the Wave stamp set with the Ride the Wave Border die! This is such a fun stamp set - great for creating masculine cards or just fun summery cards :) I stamped the surfers with some fun colors and then stamped them onto some graph paper from the Vintage Bliss collection from Fancy Pants. I didn't add any sentiment but used one of the elements from the DP - the "Be Happy" card for kind of a sentiment:

I crumpled up the images and then rounded up the corners and sponged them a little bit and distressed the edges. I also added a little bit of bling to the wave borders:
I created the sun by using the Sunshine Cutting Plate and die cutting it twice and then layering the suns on top of each other and then "trimming" the sun down a little and then adding a button with twine to the middle to create a fun sun :)

Card Ingredients:
Stamps: Ride The Wave stamp set from Taylored Expressions
Paper: Simple Stories: Vintage Bliss, Kraft
Inks: Memento Love Letter, Tangelo, Pear Tart, Bamboo Leaves, Teal Zeal, RIch Cocoa, Bahama Blue
Accessories: Ride the Wave Border, Pinking Circle Stacklets, Bling, Best Glue Ever, Sunshine Cutting Plate, Button, Baker's Twine, Glue Dot, satin ribbon, corner chomper, dimensionals

I had so much fun creating this card - and can't wait to see all the fun spotlight hops that the DT has created today - please hop with me and check them out:

Taylored Expressions June Release Day: Ray of Sunshine Cutting Plate

Hi Everyone!

Its Release Day at Taylored Expressions today! Woohooo!! And for the release day festivities I made a cardset using the brand new awesome Ray of Sunshine Cutting Plate from Taylored Expressions! I can't resist anything that has sunshine in it - as soon as I see anything sunshiney - it just makes my heart happy! And this plate can be used in so many ways and its a super easy way of creating multiple cards! Using the sentiments from the Rose Bouquet stamp set, here is a set of 4 cards that I came up using this Ray of Sunshine Cutting Plate:

It was so much fun to make this card set - for the center of the cards, I tried to create a little sun using the Pinking Shears die and then cut circles out with my circle punches - here is another view:

And an aerial view of the cards - I really had fun adding some bling to the cards - on some of the cards I added bling around the center in a circle and for others, I just randomly added bling around the rays - Love the different blingy looks!

Card Ingredients Card Set
Stamps: Rose Bouquet stamp set from Taylored Expressions
Paper: May Key Ingredients Kit 2013 using the Echo Park Sweet Girl DP and Blue and Gold card stock from Bazzill
Inks: Memento Love Letter
Accessories: Ray of Sunshine Cutting Plate,
Pinking Shears die ,Bling, Best Glue Ever,

I thought I would write down the directions on how easy it is to create two cards really quickly!

  1. Take the  Ray of Sunshine Cutting Plate and run it through your die cut machine with one sheet of DP and one sheet of cardstock
  2. Use the same color cardstock to create the rays for the border or you can use a different color cardstock to create more of a standout look
  3. Arrange the DP in both cards - it will automatically alternate the design and then in the remaining gaps, you can arrange the solid cardstock in between the DP
  4. Add a strip of ribbon across the center of the card (can also add a ribbon tab at the top of the card - or on the side of the card)
  5. Create a centerpiece for the card using the Pinking Shears die  and then layering it up with some circle punches and can add a sentiment to the center
  6. Decorate with some bling in a random pattern or around the center circle
Here are two pairs of cards that I made with this technique above:
I love these fun cards and also added a little sponging to each layer before adhering them to the ray. Here is a look at each of the cards in this set - love these sentiments from the Rose Bouquet set:

I loved making this card set - and I can't wait to make more! There are so many possibilities and ways to create fun cards with this awesome cutting plate!!! I can't wait to see what everyone has created today! Please hop and check them out with me and

Taylored Expressions June Sneak Peek: Delightful Day and Moka Melissa

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to Day 2 of sneak peeks from Taylored Expressions where today, I am starting with a stamp set that might look familiar to you - its the Delightful Day stamp set that was previously only available to Key Ingredients Kit subscribers and now it has coordinating Delightful Day Conversation Bubbles Die Set which comes with three awesome conversation bubbles that can be used with the stamp set or by itself to create a little fun conversation!

I made a card that was kind of a CASE of another card I made with this stamp set that you can see here. I love this stamp set - so much fun - especially those fun little pinwheels and cute birdies! I used the sweet sentiment: "wishing you a delightful day" and used the Conversation bubbles to create a mat for the sentiment and then popped it up over the cute little birdie. I can't even tell you HOW much fun I had making this card - so so so much fun!!!

Here is a peek at the little scene - I sponged the clouds using the Cloud Border Die and added a little pennant to the top of the card using the Pennant Border stamp set:

I created a little hill and crimped it and added some layers of grass and created a little cupcake hill with the cupcake from the Build A Treat stamp set - who doesn't love a cupcake hill!!!?!! I added a little bit of glitter to the cupcake with a little bit of bling on top - here is a little closer peek at the conversation bubble mat and the cupcake hill :)
I love the sweet little pinwheels and stamped it and colored it with two separate colors and cut it out and then tucked them in the wing of the little blue birdie:

Card Ingredients:

Stamps: Delightful Day stamp set, Pennant Border stamp set and Build A Treat Stamp set from Taylored Expressions
Paper: Cardstock from Bazzill and Choice Snow White Cardstock
Inks: Memento Love Letter, Bahama Blue, Dandelion, Tangelo, Rich Coco, Lilac Posies and Sweet Plum,
Accessories: paper crimper, circle punch, grass punch from MS, silk green ribbon, corner chomper, Cloud Border die, sponger and Delightful Day Conversation bubbles dies from TE, dimensionals, copics and bling

For my second project, I used the newest Moka on the block - please welcome Moka Melissa - inspired by TE alum Melissa Sauls who is in nursing school right now (Go Melissa!!! woohoo!). I love the sentiments with this sweet little Moka. I colored her in and then paper pieced her pants and hat - love this sweet Moka!

I created a row of tissues as a border and colored them in with matching colors of the DP :
I created the ribbon to honor the cross on her hat - on the side of the card I added a strip of kraft that I crimped and then finished the card off with a line of liquid pearls around the circle nesties:

Card Ingredients:
Stamps
: Moka Melissa stamp set from Taylored Expressions
Paper: Fancy Pans Designs: Park Bench DP and card stock from Bazzill
Inks: Memento Love Letter
Accessories: paper crimper, circle nest abilities, red grosgrain ribbon, dimensionals, copics, liquid pearls

And there's a PRIZE up for grabs, so be sure to leave a little shout out in the comment section of each blog as you hop about to be entered in a drawing for a $30 gift certificate to Verve Stamps! Check out all the details and prize info over at the Verve Blog.

If you are coming here from the awesome blog of Karen Giron, then you are in the right place!!! For my project today, I created a card using the beautiful sentiment from the Just For You stamp set: "I'm so blessed to have you in my life" from Verve stamps and paired it with the lovely Pennant Trim Die. I loved the metallic papers in this DP and kept the card kind of monochromatic with just a little pop of color from the Prima Roses. I cut out the sentiment with my circle nesties and created a little circle fun in the center of the card with a frame made from the cardstock with the corners chomped :)
Here is a closer peek at the card - I added a little tiny row of liquid pearls underneath the sentiment and above the pennant trim (and a little bling to the center of the Pennant Trim). I always love how gorgeous the fonts of every stamp set from Verve are! Julee is such an amazing artiste and illustrator!!

Card Ingredients:
Stamps: Just for You stamp set from Verve stamps

There is also a new Patriotic Project Pantry which is a kit with cardstock, coordinating ribbon and DP from Doodlebug - check out all the awesome things in this kit here:

I love the Project Pantries - it really takes the guess work out of creating a card with coordinating elements - AND it makes card making so much faster! I stamped the sentiment with red and blue inks and then cut out some of the red sentiments and put it over the blue inked sentiments and then rounded the corners. I loved the fireworks paper and the awesome red white and blue chevron paper which I cut up and put over the sentiment:

I also added some bling on the stars next to the red, white and blue sentiment and a large bling to the center of the ribbon:

Here is a closer peek at the image of the surfer - I inked the image with a couple of different inks and added it to a mat using the new Pinking Shears dies!
